super SNACKDOWN

A Crowd-Pleasing Tailgate Party

Bring the excitement of football season to your community with a snack-filled gathering residents will love. This casual event is perfect for connecting over delicious food and friendly competition, making it a hit any time of year.

How to Host a Football Snackdown

Set the Scene:

  • Create a tailgate-inspired atmosphere:

    • Decorate with team colors, banners, and small football-themed accents.

    • Use picnic tables or buffet-style setups for food stations.

    • Add casual seating areas with folding chairs or picnic blankets for a relaxed vibe.

Snacks and Drinks:

  • Feature classic game-day treats:

    • Wings, sliders, nachos, and chips with dips.

    • Include a DIY nacho bar or build-your-own slider station for interactive fun.

    • Offer soda, lemonade, or iced tea, with an option for mocktail versions of tailgate classics.

Interactive Fun:

  • Host a “Best Dip Contest” where residents bring their favorite dips, and everyone votes for their favorite.

  • Set up a simple game like football trivia or a mini “field goal challenge” using a tabletop football set.

  • Create a snack bracket where residents vote on the ultimate game-day snack (e.g., wings vs. nachos).

Legal Reminder:

The NFL is very strict about the usage of its trademarks. Things like “Super Bowl,” “Game Day,” team names, and much more are trademarked by the NFL. By using those terms, you may be subject to a warning to remove any social posts or in the worst case fines for using them. Don’t use them in your social posts, hashtags, or even your event flyers.

Additional Tips

  • Fantasy Football

If it’s a fantasy football draft party, use an app like Yahoo Fantasy Football or ESPN Fantasy Football to make it easy to set up your community league. Don’t know anything about football? Ask one of your residents if they would like to be commissioner. Late to the game? Most apps will allow signups as late as mid-October.

  • Watch Party

If it’s an in-person watch party make sure you can watch the game on your tv/projector and make sure you know which channel the game is on.

  • Super Bowl

If you only do one football event for the entire year, let it be for the Super Bowl!

  • Plenty of food

    • Hot dogs, burgers, chips, dips, soda, beer, etc. (you know, all the classic game day foods)

    • Snack to-go ideas: Potato chips, dips, pretzels, popcorn, and beer! Have a bigger budget? Consider footlong subs & pizzas.
