How to Host:
Set a Date and Time:
March 2-6, 2025 is Read Across America Week. Pick a time that’s convenient for the community. Consider hosting it on a weekend or evening.Create a Theme:
Center the event around Dr. Seuss's books, encouraging residents to bring any book they'd like to swap, but especially works that inspire creativity, fun, and imagination.Set Up a Swap Table:
Create separate tables for different age groups (children, teens, adults). Have a designated area where books can be dropped off and another for the books that have been swapped.Bookmarks & Dr. Seuss Activities:
Hand out Dr. Seuss-inspired bookmarks or activity sheets for kids to enjoy while they browse the books. You can also play Dr. Seuss audiobooks or read excerpts aloud for added fun.Refreshments:
Provide light refreshments such as snacks and drinks, maybe even themed treats (like green eggs and ham cupcakes or a cake decorated with Seuss's characters).

Foster your resident’s love of books with these events! Hold a series of book-reading events featuring your favorite short stories or books. Ask your residents what their favorite books are and feature them at the reading events. This is a great way to get the kiddos involved in reading, too, so don’t forget to include some youth classics!
You can also create a small community library in a cozy corner or common room. Set up comfy chairs or cushions and provide light refreshments for a relaxing vibe.
